How to run Hiren's BootCD from a USB Flash Drive Windows 10/8/7

A common use of a bootable USB flash drive is to use it to boot into Windows. Booting from removable media such as a USB drive allows you to perform diagnostics on a computer that is having trouble booting from the hard drive.

Connect USB Pen Drive (1GB or more) Download and Run USB Disk Storage Format USBFormat.zip (34KB) Download grubinst_gui grub4dos.zip (179KB) and Run as Administrator. Insert the BootCD (15.2 or newer) in the CD Drive and Copy everything from CD to USB Flash Drive.

Hiren’s BootCD (also known as HBCD) is a bootable CD containing a number of diagnostic programs such as partitioning agents, system performance benchmarks, disk cloning and imaging tools, data recovery tools, MBR tools, BIOS tools, and others for fixing various computer problems.

Each of these categories have a number of tools listed under them. To use Hiren’s Boot CD, you have to download and then burn the downloaded ISO file onto a CD. Put the CD in the drive and restart your computer. Make sure that the BIOS settings check for the optical drive before the hard disk for bootable media.

To boot from a CD or USB drive:
Restart your computer and wait for that first screen to pop up. Often, it’ll say something like “Press F12 to Choose Boot Device” somewhere on the screen. …
Give it a moment to continue booting, and you should see a menu pop up with a list of choices on it.

Step 1
Connect USB Pen Drive (1GB or more)

Step 2
Download and Run USB Disk Storage Format USBFormat.zip (34KB)

Step 3
Download grubinst_gui grub4dos.zip (179KB) and Run as Administrator

Step 4
Insert the BootCD (10.3 or newer) in the CD Drive and Copy everything from CD to USB Flash Drive

Step 5
Copy grldr and menu.lst from grub4dos.zip (or from HBCD folder) to the usb drive

Test Your USB Drive (read bottom of the page for troubleshoot)
